تیم ملی فوتبال زنان ژاپن با پیروزی مقابل آمریكا در فینال جام‌جهانی 2011 آلمان برای نخستین بار به عنوان قهرمانی جهان دست یافت. ملی‌پوشان ژاپن یک‌شنبه شب ۱۷ جولای در دیدار نهایی این مسابقات که آلمان میزبان برگزاری آن بود، حریف خود آمریکا را در ضربات پنالتی شکست دادند.
